Policy Updates: Children's Medical and Educational Plans
Nov 3, 2011 |
Karen Beaton The New School routinely updates its policies regarding students and staff, and when such updates occur, we announce the changes in our Parent Memo and on our website. The following is one such update:
Individual Education Plans
Individual Education Plans (IEPS) for children receiving special services such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and the like will be kept in the teachers’ closets in a locked file box for those teachers that have such plans. There will be regular meetings with therapists so teachers can be kept current on the progress and needs of children being served.
Medical Plans
Our registration form contains a section on the medical history of the children enrolled in the center. If a parent indicates that the child has special medical conditions, parents will meet with teachers and/or administrators to decide if the child needs a medical plan for time spent at school. A Medical Plan would give instructions for medications, when to call for medical help, what accommodations might be needed for school activities, and other relevant information. The medical plan would be kept on file in the school’s main office and a copy of the plan would be kept in the teacher’s class information binder.
Parents with questions about these policies may contact the school through our contact form online, or request a short meeting with an administrator for further explanation. These policies will be included in next years versions of the Parent Manuals and Employee Manuals. If you wish to have a hard copy printed for your records, please print this post or ask for a printed copy from the main office.
