Providing an atmosphere conducive to building social skills is an important goal of the early childhood education program.

Early Childhood Education

The New School’s early childhood education program seeks to provide the best possible quality of care and educational experiences for young children. Our first goal is to maintain an atmosphere in which children can feel safe, secure, valued, accepted and loved. We help children develop positive patterns of interaction with other children and adults, a positive attitude and excitement about learning, and a strong sense of self-confidence. This enriched, enjoyable early experience may be one of the most important advantages you can give your child during the formative years.

Highlights

Curriculum

Curriculum goals for the early childhood program involve creating an enriched environment with opportunities for the growth and development in literacy and language arts, motor skills, math, science and nature studies. The program provides many opportunities to promote creative self-expression through music & movement, visual arts and dramatic play activities. We understand that children learn through play and our teachers value active learning in the classroom.

Schedule and Activities

Our daily schedule was formulated by considering the children’s ages, developmental needs and attention spans. We understand that following a schedule gives children security and helps them know what to expect. Our schedules are based on blocks of time balancing free choice and structured times, active and quiet experiences, and large group, small group and independent activities.

Children learn through play and by being actively involved in real experiences. To offer these experiences, we schedule such activities as dramatic play, block play, outdoor play, nature studies, cooking experiences, art projects and language arts activities throughout their school day.
