Preschool Schedule & Activities

Our daily schedule was formulated by considering the children's ages, developmental needs, and attention spans. We understand that following a schedule gives children security and helps them know what to expect. Our schedules are based on blocks of time balancing:

• Free Choice
• Active and Quiet Experiences
• Large Group, Small Group, and Independent Activities

Children learn through play and by being actively involved in real experiences. To offer these experiences, we schedule such activities as dramatic play, block play, outdoor play, nature studies, cooking experiences, art projects, and language arts activities throughout the school day.

Sample Schedule

Below is a typical daily schedule for a preschool classroom (times vary a bit from classroom to classroom). Parents may bring their child to school at the most convenient for their family.

7:15 a.m. - School opens, children in learning centers in indoor play area

7:30 a.m. - Learning centers in the classroom (child-chosen activities such as art, blocks, dramatic play, writing, science, math, puzzles, musical instruments, and books)

8:30 a.m. - BREAKFAST

8:45 a.m. - Circle activities (literacy activities such as books, story-telling, puppets, songs, and finger plays)

9:00 a.m. - Teacher directed activities (such as math games, science activities, literacy, letter recognition, cooking, art activities, Spanish, and physical education)

9:45 a.m. - Learning centers in the classroom (child-chosen activities such as art, blocks, dramatic play, writing, science, math, puzzles, musical instruments, books, sand, and water play)

10:30 a.m. - Recess (climber, gross motor equipment, sand play, dramatic play, and blocks)

11:15 a.m. - Music class

11:30 a.m. - LUNCH

12:00 p.m. - Naps

1:00 p.m. - Indoor play area/art (children go to play area as they wake from nap)

2:00 p.m. - Recess (climber, gross motor equipment, sand play, dramatic play, and blocks)

2:30 p.m. - AFTERNOON SNACK

2:45 p.m. - Afternoon circle

3:00 p.m. - Afternoon project and centers (fine motor, art, blocks, dramatic play, science, math, sand & water, books, writing, and music)

4:30 p.m. - Recess

5:15 p.m. - Quiet Activities

5:30 p.m. - School closes
