Hello, TNS Community.
Thank you so much for all of your contributions and thoughtful cards and gifts to our faculty and staff during this “Teacher Appreciation Week!” We’ve had special lunches, Sonic drinks, snacks and drinks in break rooms, gift cards, and special raffle drawings each day. I am personally grateful for the outpouring of care and support for our teachers and staff, who contribute to the successful operations of The New School!
With so much information coming home at this time of year, I’ll aim to keep my messages brief in the coming weeks. I plan to send a final summary message at the close of the school year, with a reflection on our goals, some updates on hiring, and some highlights of planning for the coming year.
The two primary messages I want to share this week are:
- Please remember that extended day care is provided by University of Arkansas students, and many of them are leaving the area this weekend. Mary sent a message to ECE, and I’m following up here with a similar message to K-8 families, because we will experience staffing challenges at all levels in the afternoon. We will combine classes as needed. That said, if your family doesn’t rely on extended day for child care and you can limit your use of this service in these final two weeks, it will help ease the pressure on staffing.
- I hear over and over from families of younger children that they wish they knew more about the upper school experience. This past weekend our music ensembles performed their final concert at George’s Majestic Lounge, and the caliber of performance was spectacular, which is remarkable for a school of our size. The families who attended got a glimpse of our upper school. I can’t encourage you strongly enough to consider attending our Commencement Ceremony for the Class of 2022 on Friday, May 20th at 6:00pm. You will hear remarks from each graduate, and see for yourself what a “TNS Graduate” looks like! NOTE: We will not have K-8 Extended Day that day (May 20th). If this presents a hardship for your family, please contact Halee Smith.
I wish you all a wonderful weekend, followed by the calmest possible final two and a half weeks of the 2021-22 school year!
