January Cougar of the Month

Richard is currently in seventh grade and this is his second year attending The New School.

“Richard is a thoughtful and talented student, and he puts a lot of effort into his writing and reading assignments in English class. He is also funny and kind to all around him, sharing his quirky humor and music skills with his classmates.” - Jamie Ebersole, Upper School English Teacher

What activities are you involved in and outside of school?

I play on the Junior High Boys Basketball Team and I am in Rock Band after school with Mr. Austin. I also play baseball and have played cello for about ten years.

What are three things you like about The New School?

I really like the music program here. I have gotten so much better at the guitar since I have been here. I also really like all the opportunities given here. Another thing is that I think that the teachers here are really nice and help if someone doesn't understand them.

What do you think is unique about students at The New School?

The first thing I noticed when I came here is that everyone was super creative.

What has been your favorite class at The New School?

My favorite class is Ensemble. I play the guitar and it is super fun to play in a band with fellow students. You also get to play songs that you like.

Which of our school values are most important to you?

I will say curiosity because I have always been a curious person who asks questions all the time.

Anything else you would like to add?

I would like to thank my ensemble teacher Mr. Austin for teaching me guitar and teaching me things that I would never be able to learn myself.

The New School Cougar of the Month features one student each month, nominated by their teacher, who positively reflects the school's mission, vision and values
