Dear New School Families,
It seems like only yesterday that Cara and I toured The New School with Bill Mandrell, our founder. Thankfully, “we might have a spot” turned into admission for both of our children. Now, in our fifteenth year with a child at the school, we couldn’t be more grateful to be part of The New School community. Melanie and David have been loved (sometimes tough love), nurtured, challenged, and constantly supported by faculty, staff, and administrators. In our experience, the learning, educational, and extracurricular opportunities available to our children at The New School are unmatched.
I’m also fortunate to serve as a member of The New School’s Board of Trustees. This school year is my eighth as a Trustee and second as Board Chair. The Board of Trustees consists of twelve trustees and Nancy Lang. Our trustees are TNS parents, grandparents, and former parents. We are all passionate ambassadors of The New School. We meet monthly with Nancy (more frequently since COVID-19 arrived) and also work via committee (Executive, Finance, Development, Strategic Planning, and Committee on Trustees). Our role is governance, not management. Our top three responsibilities are supporting our Head of School, Nancy Lang, nurturing and guarding The New School’s mission and vision, and protecting The New School’s financial health.
Finally, on behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to thank the entire TNS community. “These are challenging times.” is a massive understatement. Since February, we’ve watched Nancy, her administrators, faculty, and staff work tirelessly to continue to deliver educational excellence. We’ve watched parents adjust to change (drop off, pick up, visiting campus, virtual learning, etc…) with grace, patience, and flexibility. We’ve watched TNS students embrace “temporary normal” with amazing attitudes and resilience. It might be easy to overlook during this challenging time, but we are winning.
I love The New School!!
