Dear New School Early Childhood Families,

On the first day back from the holidays, I  heard a child say as they entered the door,  ”I love my school”. This is exactly what teachers and parents at The New School love to hear. When children and families are happy and feel safe, true learning happens. Being at school, in person, is important for our youngest learners and we all know that now more than ever before… we need school. Children thrive with consistency and routine and the social-emotional learning and connections that take place at school are so valuable for children’s future success.

The connection between teachers and children are at the root of everything we do. Our early childhood curriculum has a component of self-guided learning, we look to our children to guide us. Although, teachers continue to refer to lesson plans and develop a plan of learning. What makes an education at The New School unique is that our teachers listen to the students’ interests and create lessons where they can investigate and explore if the plans change course. The ultimate goal is that everything we do in ECE is developmentally appropriate and promotes curiosity and creativity while allowing students to grow as happy, eager learners for the adventures ahead. It feels great to be back in action.

We are more than happy to be back for 2021 in person. To hear children laughing, singing, building towers, practicing writing, taking risks, and simply doing all the things they love to do. Their smiles speak volumes. Over the next few months, we will continue to assess and track your child’s progress as they grow and develop. Meanwhile, I encourage you to speak to your teachers— email and connect. Let us know how things are going and if we can help in any way, and of course, our teachers will do the same.

I wanted to share with you the ABC’s of ECE. A fun reminder of all the joy that The New School brings each and every day. Thank you for calling The New School home.
