The New School athletics helps fulfill the mission of the school as expressed through our three core values in athletics:
Based on our philosophy, our athletic department and team goals are excellence, on and off the field of play and success, reaching maximum potential both individually and as a team.
Upper School Varsity Philosophy
Student athletes are striving to maximize their individual abilities, while simultaneously helping The New School win Arkansas Athletic Association championships. All playing time is earned and there should be no expectation, nor is there a guarantee, students will either make a varsity team or be given playing time based on their year in school or previous participation in the sport at The New School or another school. Sportsmanship and character development are expected by-products of participation at every level.
Upper School Sub-Varsity Philosophy
Students will experience more advanced skill development and sport-specific systems of play instruction. Although the amount of playing time is earned, all students will be given playing time in all contests.
7th - 8th Grade Philosophy
Since this is the second year of interscholastic athletics competition, most students will begin to choose favorite sports. During the course of each season, sport-specific skills will be honed and sport systems of play will be taught. With the exception of the end of year Tournament, it is intended that each student is given some playing time during each contest. "B" teams are considered a developmental team and all students will be given playing time in all games.
5th - 6th Grade Philosophy
Since this is each student's first year of interscholastic athletics competition, it is intended to be an introductory year. It is the goal of the program to inspire joy of sport in every student. Playing time will be given to everyone during each contest. "B" teams are considered a developmental team and all students will be given playing time in all games.
