Summer Camp FAQs

Where do I take my child for camp?

All campers should be brought to the main building at 2514 New School Place off Sunbridge between College and Gregg. Campers who come between the hours of 7:30-9:00 am go to the playground or tech lab. At 9:00 am all campers, teachers and staff will gather in the gym before heading off to their locations. If you arrive after 9:10 am, ask the front desk to direct you to your child’s camp location. Please note that Adventure Camps leave the school by 9:15 am.

Where do I pick up my child after camp?

At 3:00 pm all campers will be taken to the cafeteria for parent pick-up or to stay for our after-camp care. After 3:15 pm, campers will be in the playground, gym or tech lab. You can ask the front desk to have your child brought to you, or the front desk will tell you where to find your child and you can pick them up at their location. We ask that you make contact with a staff member so your child can be marked out for the day.

Is there an extra cost for before & after camp care, lunch and snacks?

No, the cost of each camp is all inclusive! Campers will all be fed a mid-morning snack and lunch, and there will be a 3:00 snack served for all campers staying for the afternoon. For the off-campus camps, sack lunches and snacks will be provided by The New School’s very own Chef Sarah.

Can I register my child for a few days a week?

No, we do not have a daily rate for any of our campers. You must register and pay for an entire week.

Can my child drop in at any time?

No, we do not allow drop ins for any of our camps. It is important that we maintain teacher/student ratios, and some of our camps have supplies that have been purchased for the amount of students registered. Registration closes for all camps at noon on the Thursday before the camp begins.

Can I register my child for the next grade up?

No, we do not make exceptions for any child. Whatever grade your child was in during the 2016-17 school year is the grade he/she will be in at our camp.

What methods of payment to you accept?

We accept credit cards (with a 3% convenience fee) and personal checks. All registration and payment is online.

What is due at the time of registration?

A non-refundable fee of $50 and a deposit equal to 25% of all camp fees is due at the time of registration. All June camps must be paid in full by June 1st, and all July camps must be paid in full by July 1st.

What is The New School’s Summer Program Refund Policy?

The registration fee of $50 is non-refundable. Camp tuition is refundable up until two weeks prior to beginning of each camp/course with a $25 cancellation fee. Email our camp director at Jonny.schremmer@thenewschool.org to cancel your registration.

What happens if I am late picking up my child?

A minimum late fee of $15 will be charged per family whose child or children are not picked up by 5:30. After 5:45, $1 per minute will be charged. Please make every effort to pick up your camper(s) by 5:30.

What happens if the camp I registered for doesn’t make?

The New School may cancel any camp that does not have an acceptable level of enrollment. Notification of cancellations will be made one week before the camp’s start date with full refunds given. Every effort will be made to make room for your child in another camp.

What happens if a camp is full?

There will be wait pools for camps who reach their maximums. Again, every effort will be made to make room for your child in another camp.
