Welcome from the Head of Upper School

I am honored to lead the Upper School at The New School.

We have worked diligently to develop a student experience which challenges our students academically, athletically and artistically. With a variety of offerings, students have the opportunity to explore their interests and develop not only the skills for success in college, but engage in a process of discovery and transformation.

Construction is underway on major improvements to our facilities, developing entirely new classroom and lab spaces, allowing our inspiring faculty and students to explore ideas and produce work previously unattainable. These plans include a 9,000 square foot innovation center that includes computer science labs, tinkering studios, and a media commons area where students can gather and collaborate. Additionally, a new 35,000 sqare foot academic space will house the 5th through 12th grades, and an 18,000 square foot gym will enable students to prepare for and participate in team sports and allow them to acquire lifelong habits of health.

With all these improvements, there is one thing that never changes at TNS. Our commitment to helping students create their own learning experiences is chief among our objectives. With traditions like the ArkTANK, the FIRST LEGO League robotics program, Arts Week, and immersive grade level trips, TNS is helping students to identify their passions and interests allowing them to incorporate this into significant academic work.

There is so much on the horizon for us as we welcome the talented class of 2021, but first and foremost is continuing to deliver a challenging and rigorous curriculum to instill in our students the skills necessary for success in the 21st century. At The New School we set a new standard for what secondary education looks like when the student is at the center of the program.

This is an exciting time, and I am thrilled to be in this role. Enjoy your online tour of TNS, and if you find yourself wanting to know more about us, please come for a visit. We are eager to welcome into the community students and families who recognize that learning happens when authentic and challenging opportunities are investigated alongside supportive faculty and motivated peers.

We invite you to discover why TNS is the right place for your student.
